If someone clicks my ad and then phones instead of filling in the form, does Google Ads know that lead came from the ad?

No, not by default. A click followed by a phone call to a number on your website is invisible to Google Ads unless you have set something up to connect them — call reporting, dynamic number insertion, or an offline conversion import that captures the click identifier at lead creation.

How can a phone call be tied back to an ad click?

1. Google's call reporting, for calls placed directly from the ad through a call asset. Call-only ads count too, until Google stops serving them in February 2027. Google owns both ends, so attribution is direct.

2. Dynamic number insertion on your website. A visitor arriving from an ad sees a distinct number, and the system ties the call back to the click identifier that brought them.

3. Offline conversion import. The booking system captures the click identifier at lead creation and uploads the booked job later.

Without one of these, the call is unattributed.

How much attribution loss should I expect even done properly?

Roughly 30% never matches. Measured across a 14-location network, the matchable share sat in a 0.56 to 0.83 band over settled windows.

The causes are behavioural rather than technical: customers dialling a static number, a listing, or a number from a van; booking days later; moving between devices.

What was ruled out as the cause of the attribution gap?

Worth knowing because it stops people chasing the wrong thing. Runtime testing across 13 sites found the click identifier captured, transmitted to the booking system, and the number swapping correctly — identical on the best- and worst-matching accounts. Duplicate tag containers did not correlate. Every ad-platform setting was identical between them.

No queryable Google Ads setting explained the variance. The gap is downstream capture.

What raises offline conversion coverage?

Enhanced conversions for leads, plus hashed email and phone sent on every booked lead. That typically lifts coverage materially.

Note what it buys: measurement accuracy, not automatic permission to spend. On that network the binding constraint remained impression share lost to rank, at 50–79%, with essentially nothing lost to budget.

Someone sees me in Local Services Ads, then goes to my website and calls — how do I know that lead came from LSA?

You mostly cannot, and any system that claims to close that gap completely is overstating it. What you can do is measure the size of the gap and stop making decisions that assume it is zero. Read the full answer.

I'm getting clicks from Google Ads but no conversions. Is it the traffic or my landing page?

You cannot tell from the account-level number, and almost every published answer tells you to fix both at once. Segment conversion rate by search-term intent instead. Read the full answer.

How do I know if my Google Ads agency is actually doing anything, or just letting the account run?

Pull the change history and group it by user. It shows every change, who made it, and when — and it is the one thing in the account that cannot be dressed up in a report. Read the full answer.
