Does a feed-only Performance Max campaign really only run on Shopping?

No. A feed-only campaign is weighted toward Shopping inventory, but it still serves across the Performance Max network — Google generates assets from your product data to fill the other placements.

What does a feed-only Performance Max campaign actually mean?

It means you did not upload text, image or video assets. It does not mean you bought a Shopping-only campaign. Google builds what it needs from your product feed and your landing pages.

How do I prove where a feed-only campaign is serving?

Segment by network type. If a feed-only campaign were truly Shopping-only, all spend would sit in the Search slice. Pull the split and see.

On a software affiliate account, the non-Search slices across 8 Performance Max campaigns took $949.68 over 12 days for 1.3 conversions. That is the shape of the leak, and it is invisible in the campaign view because Performance Max reports one blended cost per click.

Is feed-only still the right Performance Max setup?

Because it is the closest available approximation to Shopping-weighted delivery inside Performance Max, and because withholding assets removes the auto-generated video that otherwise opens the YouTube placements.

If your objective is Shopping-weighted delivery, feed-only plus campaign-specific purchase-only goals is the tightest configuration Performance Max allows.

What matters more than whether a campaign is feed-only?

Campaign-specific conversion goals, purchase only.

A leather-goods account's Performance Max campaigns ran on account-default goals where Purchase, Page View, Add to Cart, Begin Checkout and Phone Call Lead were all biddable. On Maximize Conversion Value the bidder chased the cheap micro actions. Cost per click collapsed $1.25 → $0.25, impressions rose roughly 10×, and purchases went from 12 a week to about zero.

Nobody chose that. A channel app imported funnel conversions which auto-joined the default goal set.

Check campaign_conversion_goal.biddable, not the presence of a DEFAULT row — the DEFAULT row persists with biddable false under campaign-specific goals.

What happens if a campaign has no biddable conversion goal?

A second campaign had zero biddable goals at all. Maximize Conversion Value with nothing to maximise means no bid signal whatsoever. Worth checking across every campaign, because it produces strange behaviour rather than an obvious error.

Can I run Performance Max and Standard Shopping at the same time, and which one actually shows?

Yes, you can run both, and they compete rather than one automatically winning. The old rule — that Performance Max always takes precedence over Standard Shopping for the same product — was changed, and most published answers still repeat it. Read the full answer.

Why can I only see some of my Performance Max search terms, and is it safe to add negatives based on them?

Performance Max withholds low-volume terms the same way Search does, so what you see is a sample. It is safe to negate from it only if you validate across multiple windows first — a term reading zero conversions in one window routinely converts in another. Read the full answer.

How do I stop Performance Max from spending my budget on YouTube?

You cannot switch YouTube off inside a Performance Max campaign. What you can do is see exactly how much it is costing you, fix the signal that is sending it there, and decide whether to split the campaign. Read the full answer.
